From the problem description, I understand that Windows Live OneCare prompts to remove Ad-Aware 2007. If I have misunderstood your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Fran, I would like to explain that during the last client update, OneCare checks whether any third party conflicting program is installed on the computer. If Ad-Aware is not removed from the computer, OneCare will display a red status. This occurs by design and I appreciate your understanding.

In order to maintain a stable system environment, other anti-virus and firewall programs installed on the computer must be uninstalled before installing Windows Live OneCare. This is because conflicts may occur when each security program tries to monitor and restrict other programs\' activities. The system performance may also significantly decrease when more than one real-time protection program is enabled. As Windows Live OneCare provides computers with full protection from viruses, worms, Internet attack attempts, and various other threats, we highly recommend uninstalling other programs to avoid such program conflicts. Your understanding is appreciated. Should you have further concerns, please feel free to let me know.

I suggest removing those programs manually by following these steps:

  1. Click Start and double click Control Panel.
  2. Click on "Switch to Classic View" if it is in category view.
  3. Double click Add/Remove Programs.
  4. Locate all third party antivirus or firewall applications or any such related programs. Highlight and remove all of them.
