Working with the U.S. FBI, Romanian police this past week have arrested 70 suspects of long-running online scams and fraud, thought to be from three organized cyber crime groups. The alleged fraudsters were involved in online auction scams targeting users of eBay.
According to reports, authorities have identified over 800 victims located across the globe (including Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States). The scams, stretching as far back as 2006, have netted 800,000 Euros (in excess of $1 million US.)
